DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL

Dragon Boat Festival

  • The fragrance of zongzi leaves fills the air, and dragon boats break through the waves. It is the Dragon Boat Festival again. In this traditional festival that carries thousands of years of cultural heritage, Jiansiyan would like to extend the most sincere festival blessings to every colleague! May you and your family be safe and sound, and enjoy a wonderful life!

The Story of Qu Yuan

  • Over 2,000 years ago in ancient China, there lived a loyal and patriotic poet named Qu Yuan, who served as a minister in the State of Chu during the Warring States period. Qu Yuan was deeply devoted to his country, but when corrupt officials exiled him and his beloved nation fell into decline, he was heartbroken.
  • In an act of protest and despair, Qu Yuan threw himself into the Miluo River. The local people, who admired his virtue, raced out in boats to try and rescue him or retrieve his body. Fearing that fish might consume him, they threw balls of sticky rice—what we now call zongzi—into the river to distract them. They also beat drums and paddled furiously, which eventually evolved into the Dragon Boat Races we celebrate today.
  • To this day, Qu Yuan’s spirit is honored through these traditions—symbols of loyalty, remembrance, and resistance against corruption.
  • "Qu Yuan was a truly wonderful man. In today's world, we rarely see people like him. If God were to bless us with someone like him again in the future, perhaps they could help revive and enrich our cultural values."
